Car Seat Safety

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, as many as 85 percent of all car seats are improperly installed. MAKE SURE YOU ARE INSTALLING YOUR CAR SEAT PROPERLY. Here are some tips:

  • An infant in a rear-facing car seat should never be placed in the passenger seat of a vehicle with an air bag.

  • The safest place for children to ride is in the back seat (center seat if possible).

  • ALL infants should ride facing the rear of the vehicle until they have reached at least one year of age AND weigh at least 20 pounds. Should your child exceed the weight and/or height limit of the car seat, they should still ride rear facing in an approved car seat for his/her height and weight (possibly a convertible seat).
  • The harnesses should fit snugly against your child's body and the chest clip should be placed at armpit level.

  • Read and follow the manual closely.
