Babies & Teething

Teething is a special milestone in your baby's life. This means that they will soon begin cutting teeth, and before you know it, will have a mouth full. There are some ways to tell that your baby is teething, and some things that you can do to make this an easier phase of his life. If you do not already know how to tell if your baby is teething and what you can do for him, you will want to read on.

The signs of teething are sometimes misleading to new mothers. Often you will hear about a new mother taking their baby to the doctor because they thought the baby was sick, only to find out that their baby is teething. There are a few ways that you can tell teething from sickness. Often when your baby begins teething, he will drool like crazy. Lots of drool is always a sign of teething, as well as grumpiness. If your baby is more grumpy than usual, he might be teething. The reason the baby will not be happy about it, is because he his little gums will ache from the tooth trying to come through his gums. Another sign of teething is that your baby may be running a low grade fever. Low grade as in a degree or two. Enough fever that you are concerned, but not running him to the emergency room is a good way to tell a low grade fever.

There are many things that you can do for your baby to make his teething experience better. You can be sure that your baby has teething rings to chew on, as well as the ones that you can freeze. The teething rings that are to be frozen first are great because the coldness will help numb his gums. Another thing you can do for your baby is massage his gums with your finger. Be sure that your hands are washed, and do not hurt your baby with your finger nail. You will find that your baby loves this, and will get upset about it when you stop. You can also apply baby orajel on your baby's gums to help numb the pain as well. Be sure that you use a baby fever reducer to take care of the fever, and you and baby should be set for teething.

After your baby has went through the teething stage you are sure to see new little teeth soon. They may come one at a time or two at a time, every baby is different.
