Swings

The swing that you select for your baby will help you soothe your newborn and entertain your baby as he grows. There are many styles and colors, but the most important option to look for is safety for you and your baby.

Open top swings are wonderful because you do not have to maneuver around a bar to place your baby in the swing. The awkwardness of the closed top swings make them a safety hazard for your back, too. Open top swings can be purchased in wind up or battery operated styles. You might think that the battery operation is a ploy to add additional cost to the swing, but consider this: a wind up swing has to be rewound every 15 minutes. A battery operated swing has a timer, so you control the time or just allow it to run as long as you like.

Nervous about online shopping? You shouldn't be.

hen your infant is ill or has colic, you will be very happy if you make an investment in a battery operated swing. Colicky babies are calmer when they are moving or being held. You will save yourself many sleepless nights if your infant can swing with you next to the swing. Obviously, a swing in not a cure for illness or colic, but a good swing can be one of the tools in your arsenal for providing comfort for your baby.

•  Make sure the swing is set up on a flat surface and that the legs all touch the ground when it is in use.

•  Always use the safety belt in your baby swing.

•  Never leave the room when your baby is in the swing
