Accessories

Baby bedding accessories can include items like a canopy. Try to place a canopy so that the draping sides can be secured away from your baby's crib when your baby is sleeping or playing in her crib. You neither want your baby to pull the canopy down on her head, nor do you want to have the draping sides billow into your crib. Your baby shouldn't be able to tangle up in a lot of extra material. For this reason, remove comforters or other decor from the sides of your crib when your baby is sleeping, too.

Stuffed animals should not be left in your baby's crib until she is able to move freely. You will know when your baby is ready for a sleeping companion. The accessories that you choose for your baby's bed will also come with age recommendations. You should not use any item before the lowest recommended age. Your baby will be safe as long as you remember to use common sense and follow manufacturers instructions.

Most important of all, enjoy this time with your baby. Hold, cuddle and enjoy your newborn because the first years is over in a flash. The best assessory that you can give your baby is actually your time and presence.

•  Follow manufacturers directions and warnings for all accessories.

•  Keep in mind that your baby will be able to reach items soon when you are hanging them in your nursery or on your baby's crib.

•  If an accessory uses electricity, try to place the cord behind a dresser or other item that reaches to the floor to avoid the chance that your baby will pull it down.
