Exercise and Pregnancy

Before you begin any exercise routine you should always consult your physician. If you were not doing an exercise routine before you became pregnant, you really should not start one now. However, if you have been exercising before you became pregnant, there is no reason that you cannot continue during your pregnancy. But, there are some things that you might want to consider.

Exercising during pregnancy is great if you were exercising before as well. However, you might want to tone down your exercises just a tad while you are pregnant. If you were jogging or running beforehand, you might want to drop that pace down to a walk. Walking while you are pregnant is one of the best exercises that you can do. There is not any reason that you can not continue doing this until you can not any longer. If you are having problems with swelling feet or maybe having a not so healthy pregnancy, you will want to consult your doctor to see if it is recommended that you exercise while pregnant.

Stretching is a great exercise for you to do while you are pregnant. This will help keep you from feeling stiff, and will keep you limber as well. Swimming is another good exercise that you might want to try while you are pregnant. You will find that you can exercise easier in a pool and it is not quite so strenuous on your muscles because of the water. However, you will also want to be sure that you do not over do it.

You will also find that yoga is still possible while you are in the earlier stages of pregnancy. This is also a great way to stay fit, as well as clear your mind. Once you start to get a little bigger, you might find that the positions are not as easy to achieve any longer, and may want to slack off of those a little.

Walking, swimming, stretching and yoga are all wonderful pregnancy exercises. You can even join a pregnancy aerobics class if you were doing aerobics before you became pregnant. You might even want to look for a pregnancy aerobics DVD that you can do in the privacy of your own home.

You will find that you will have more energy when you continue to exercise during your pregnancy. This is a great effect, because when you are pregnant, you will find that you are often feeling drained. Exercising is a great picker upper, and will help you find the energy that you need to prepare for your new baby.
