Changing Tables & Pads

You have good news. The stork is on the way. You begin to think about the nursery and all the options available to you in this modern world. Don't overlook the changing tables and pads for your nursery.

In days gone by, changing tables and pads were not considered to be a necessity for the nursery. However, that has changed. Many new mothers find that having a special place to change the diapers and clean the baby will keep the mess and supplies all in one place. When that little one comes home from the hospital, the mother may not have someone to help her right away. It is essential to have the changing area all set up with the right pads, covers and supplies. This will help greatly in the middle of the night when the infant needs to be changed and it is a dirty diaper.

Nervous about online shopping? You shouldn't be.

You won't have to run here and there to get the things you need. Place them in a basket nearby or underneath the changing tables. Many changing tables have a place underneath for storage and extra supplies or baskets. Keep these things in reach. But if you have other small children at home, you may consider a shelf up top to place some items, where they are out of reach of little hands.

There are many styles of changing tables and pads. Some changing tables come with the nursery furniture set and match the décor. Others can be bought separately. One unique changing table I have seen is where the parents used a piece of antique or retro furniture and refinished it to match the décor. They took a changing pad and adhered it to the furniture and presto, there you have it. Just make sure the height will be correct for you to comfortably change the child. This is a piece of furniture that is used as often as the crib and you don't want to hurt your back by bending improperly every time you have to change your baby.

The changing table and pad can be used for the child until he or she is potty trained. It makes a convenient way to bring your child up to your height to take care of details without compromising your back. Please remember to use the buckle and never leave the child unattended.

Always keep a hand on the baby. Keep the pad covers clean, changing them often as needed. Wipe the plastic pad itself with a Lysol wipe to make sure germs are not lurking on it. The changing table and pad is a much needed item in the nursery.

If your baby is suffering from diaper rash you can apply cream to the infected area to help. But, make sure the cream/ointment contains zinc oxide ointment (Desitin Ointment or Vaseline ones) to protect your baby's skin from moisture.
