Breast Pumps
Breast pumps provide an efficient manner for you to provide breast milk for your baby when you are not near. If you want your husband to enjoy bonding with your baby, you should purchase a breast pump right away and introduce a bottle to your newborn during the first month of her life. Not only will this reduce nipple confusion, but it will help the ease of switching between bottle and breast feedings for you and your baby. Breast pumps are available in manual and electric styles. Although the manual breast pump is the least expensive, it doesn't always provide the efficiency that you will need to express your breast of milk. The lower end electric models will be faster, but perhaps not fast enough for your liking. In general you will spend about one half hour expressing both breats. It you shop for an electric breast pump that expresses both breasts simultaneously, expressing your breasts will take under 15 minutes. Electric breast pumps can be compared by the cycling time. Simply put, the cycling time is the number of times the machine will "suckle" your breast. The cycling time can range from 30 to 70 times per minute. The higher range cycling times are provided by hospital grade breast pumps that range in price around $1500. If your baby has health issues, your hospital will rent a hospital grade unit to you for dollars a day. Alternatively, you can purchase a sleeker model breast pump for your personal use. As with suckling your baby yourself, it will take time to become comfortable with breast pumps. Allow time to relax when you are pumping milk and you will have a more enjoyable experience. |
