Baby Immunizations

Baby immunizations are important for your baby. Making sure that your baby gets the necessary shots at the correct time is your responsibility as a parent. No parent likes to see their baby getting a shot, but it is something that every parent must go through. Keeping your baby up with their shots will make sure that they remain healthy and do not contract illnesses that can be avoided. You can contact your local health unit or your baby's doctor to make an appointment for the necessary shots.

The first immunization that your baby will get is the hepatitis B shot. This immunization will protect your baby from hepatis B, and should be given to your child 3 times. Your child will receive this immunization not long after birth, between 1 and 4 months of age, and again between 6 and 18 months of age.

Your baby will also need the DTaP immunization shot. DTaP stands for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. The ages for this vaccine is 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, between 15 and 18 months, as well as between the ages of 4 and 6 years of age.

Hib is also another immunization shot that your baby will need. The ages for this shot are 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months, then again between 12 and 15 months. This shot will protect your baby from haemophilus influenza type B.

The polio immunization is another important shot that your baby should not miss as well. The polio shot will protect your baby from polio, and is required at ages of 2 months, 4 months, between 6 and 18 months, and a last shot between the ages of 4 and 6 years of age.

The MMR immunization protects your baby from measles, mumps, and rubella. Your baby should receive this shot between the ages of 12 and 15 months and again between the ages of 4 and 6 years of age.

Varicella is just as important of an immunization that your child should receive. This shot will protect your baby from the chicken pox, and should be given between the ages of 12 and 18 months.

Pneumococcal is another immunization that your child should receive between at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and between the ages of 12 and 15 months. This shot will protect your baby from pneumococcal disease.

If you are a new mother, you are probably reading this information with your mouth held open at the amount of shots your baby is going to need. While it does seem like a lot of times for your sweet new baby to be stuck, each and every one of these shots are important and necessary. You will need to schedule appointments for your baby to get them, and it is your responsibility as a parent to make sure that each one is given.
