Baby WalkersYour baby's first year is the most important year of their life. You will notice that your baby will go through so many changes in the first year, it will be hard for you to keep up. If you are a new parent, you just might be wondering what to expect in the first year of your baby's life. Newborn to 2 monthsWhile your baby is still brand new you will see that most of what he will do is eat and sleep. You will want to take time to cuddle and hold your baby, as well as talk to him and bond with your little one during this time. Doing this is very important during this time, and you will be glad that you did later. At this point you will need to support your baby's head while you are holding him, until he is strong enough to hold it himself. 3 months to 6 monthsOnce your baby is about 3 months old, you will notice that he is starting to hear your voice, and will smile at you occasionally. This will get more frequent as your baby gets older, and he will even giggle on occasion. Your baby will also start teething at this stage of his life, and you may want to start him on cereal to see if you can get him to sleep all night long. You will notice as your baby gets closer to 6 months of age, that he will turn his head and look at you when you are talking to him. Starting baby food at 6 months old is also a great idea. 7 months to 9 months oldWhen your baby reaches 7 months old he should be eating baby food like a pro, and starting to sit up a little at a time. By the time your baby has reached 9 months, he may even be crawling and sitting up by himself. He may even have a mouth full of teeth at this point as well. Oh what a fun age this is. Your baby should recognize his name, as well as recognize you and other people that he sees often. 10 months to 1 yearAnytime after 10 months your baby will start to pull up on things so that they can stand up, and should be crawling all over the place. Once your baby has mastered pulling up, you should expect him to take off walking any time after that, as well as beginning to talk. Your baby may even say his first word about the time he is 1 year old, and you should jot it down in the baby book so that you do not forget what it is later. By the time your baby is 1 year, you will want to have him on some solid food and finger foods as well. You can also begin taking your baby off of the bottle at this time if you wish. While this is a general outline of a baby's progression during the first year, if your baby is not doing all of these things at the specified time, do not worry. Some babies take a little longer than others, and that is perfectly normal. All babies are different and progress at their own speed. |
