Burping PadsBurping pads have evolved over the years. Grandma would just take an old kitchen towel or an old bathroom towel and cut it up. Many things have been used as burping pads in days gone by. In this century, burping pads can be disposable or cute and artsy with personalized initials of baby. Burping pads make a great baby shower gift. Some use diapers as burping pads. They are washable and serve as a double duty item. You can even take a diaper and sew an appliqué on it and embellish it and have a wonderful homemade gift for baby! Burping pads can be made color coordinated to match the nursery or the theme of the baby's room. One should always have plenty of burping pads. They should be in every room of the house and even the vehicle. They should be disposable or washable. They can be found draped over the arm of the chair, the couch or in the crib. There should be several stuffed in the diaper bag for emergencies. They can be used as a changing pad for an infant or for the unforeseen spew after a bottle. An infant takes in milk, sucking on a nipple, then he needs to be burped. Letting out the trapped air will help the baby to not get gas on his stomach and become irritable. The gas can make them cranky and uncomfortable. A baby can cry a lot when it needs to be burped. New parents might not understand the baby's need to be burped right after a feeding. Mothers dressed for work or play can grab a burping pad easily in case of the burp that comes up liquid. This can circumvent the unfortunate mishap. Be sure to support the baby's neck during burping. Some babies are harder to burp than others. Another way to burp a baby is to lay them on their stomach over your lap. Be sure to place a burping pad over your lap first to contain any dribbles from the infant. Light patting and rubbing is all that is necessary to get the baby to burp and expel the air trapped in their bellies. Always have a good grasp on the baby and support his neck and head. Use burping pads to protect your clothes. You never know when the baby might spit up quite a bit. |
